The Oratory of Saint Joseph in Inverness is the Private Chapel of Fr Len Black, a retired priest of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham, who served in the Scottish Episcopal Church from 1973 until 2011 when the Ordinariate was formed.
As the only Ordinariate priest in Scotland he had the task of building up the Ordinariate here, initially with Mass weekly near Inverness and monthly in Edinburgh. When he retired at the end of 2025 he was given permission by Bishop David Waller, Ordinary of the Ordinariate, to continue to celebrate Holy Mass and to reserve the Blessed Sacrament.
The Oratory of Saint Joseph may be small but it remains a special place where Holy Mass is offered according to the Rites of the Ordinariate, as approved by the Holy See, and staying true to our Scottish Episcopalian heritage and traditions.
The Oratory of Saint Joseph is in the back garden of Fr Len's home at 49 Laurel Avenue Inverness IV3 5RR on the other side of the River Ness from the city centre in the Dalneigh area.(Google Maps)
